McHenry Fire Update
UPDATE: The fire is 100% contained and firefighters will be on scene for most of the day putting out hot spots. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Escalon, CA – Stanislaus Consolidated Fire Protection District (SCFPD) crews were called earlier this afternoon to assist Escalon Fire Department with a vegetation fire near the river in the area of River Road and McHenry Avenue in Escalon. The flames jumped the Stanislaus River and began to run along the riverbed so additional resources were called to fight the fire that was now on both sides of the river and crossed over from San Joaquin to Stanislaus County. After several hours, the fire has grown to cover an area of approximately 50-100 acres, destroyed three homes, resulted in 12 homes evacuated, and several more homes are still threatened. Fortunately, no one has been injured in the fire. Crews from various agencies are working to control the fire, which is not contained on the east side. Please stay out of the area, pull over for responding emergency vehicles, and expect delays in the area.
