Smoke Testing to begin today
Please be advised that beginning the week of June 22-August 7th the City of Vidalia Public Works with assistance from the Georgia Rural Water Association (GRWA) will be conducting smoke testing of sewer lines throughout the entire city.
The purpose of the testing is to locate deficient areas in the sewer system by which un-necessary rain water enters the system reducing its capacity for transference to the treatment plants.
Crews will be marking the neighborhoods with signage indicating that testing is being conducted in the areas at the time of testing.
The smoke produced during the test is nontoxic and the customers in these areas may experience smoke coming from the vents in the roofs of their homes and their neighbor’s homes; they should not be alarmed as this is normal during these tests.
All emergency agencies will be notified daily of the areas being tested. Should customers have any questions they can contact the Vidalia Public Works Department at 537-4566.
