Local man and woman arrested and charged in connection with burglaries

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

BENTON, MISSOURI - Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter said a local area man and woman have been arrested and charged in connection with burglaries.

Tyler S. Ward (22) Blodgett and Cassidy L. Scott (18) Sikeston have both been charged with 1st degree burglary, 2nd degree burglary, stealing and property damage. In addition, Ward is also charged with receiving stolen property and being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. Bond is set at $25,000 on Cassidy and $50,000 cash only on Ward.

Walter said his office received report of a residential burglary and stealing on Rainbow Lake Road Sunday, June 7th. It was reported that someone forcibly entered the residence and stole an AR-15 rifle, firearm accessories, collectible cash and coins, a camera and two sets of binoculars.

On June 19th another residential burglary was reported at the same area. Forcible entry was gained into a mobile home used for storage, where collectible toy cars were taken and a firearm was stolen from a vehicle. A trail of blood at the scene indicated the suspect/s was injured during the forcible entry.

Walter said a deputy responding to a domestic violence call at the Tyler Ward residence on Friday, June 19th recovered the firearm that was stolen earlier during the day. The deputy also recovered a firearm stolen from New Mexico. Ward was present at the residence and the deputy observed multiple cuts and injuries to his hands, face, and neck area. Ward, who is a convicted felon, was arrested.

Further investigation resulted in the arrest of Cassidy Scott who was an accomplice to Ward in the burglaries which occurred at the residence of Scott’s mother and step-father.

Some of the stolen property was recovered with exception to the AR-15, accessories, ammunition and collectible coins. It was reported that the AR-15 and accessories were traded to an unknown person in Cape Girardeau for drugs.

Walter said it is very unfortunate that the AR-15 was not recovered, because it’s probably in possession of a person who should not have it. Walter is asking that anyone with information about this case, especially with information about the AR-15 to please contact his office immediately.
