A Severe Thunderstorm Watch has been issued for our area, Torrential rain, frequent lightning and high winds predicted.
MAYOR AMATO WOULD LIKE TO ADVISE RESIDENTS THAT THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE HAS ISSUED A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH FOR OUR AREA
DOPPLER RADAR INDICATED A LINE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DESTRUCTIVE WINDS IN EXCESS OF 70 MPH.
THE STORM IS MOVING EAST AT 45 MPH. THIS LINE HAS HAD A HISTORY OF DAMAGING WINDS. PLEASE TAKE THIS WARNING SERIOUSLY.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAN PRODUCE DAMAGING WINDS...LARGE HAIL...HEAVY RAINS FLOOD ROADS QUICKLY SO DO NOT DRIVE INTO AREAS WHERE WATER COVERS THE ROAD.
TORRENTIAL RAINFALL IS ALSO OCCURRING WITH THESE STORMS...AND MAY LEAD TO FLASH FLOODING. DO NOT DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE THROUGH FLOODED ROADWAYS.

If a power outage occurs as a result of the severe weather, customers should call 1-888-LIGHTSS (1-888-544-4877) to report their outage or click the “Report Outage” link on: www.firstenergycorp.com via smartphone.
In the event of downed utility wires, you should immediately report them to JCP&L at the number above or the Berkeley Township Police Department at 732-341-6600.
Residents should never go near a downed power line, even if they think it is no longer carrying electricity.
