Six People Injured During Six Vehicle Pile-Up On I-65 In Seymour
Seymour – Six people were injured during a six-vehicle crash on I-65 south of Seymour.
On June 24, 2015 around 4:40 PM, Indiana State Police troopers responded to a multi-vehicle crash in the north lanes of I-65 within the 41.5 mm. According to ISP Trooper Jacob Tolle, a 2013 International semi-tractor driven by Gary Oldenburg 62, of Gleason, Wisconsin was traveling north on I-65 when it struck the rear of a 2004 Pontiac Vibe driven by Daniel Skinner 25, of Columbus, Indiana, causing it to spin around and into the emergency lane. The semi-tractor and trailer continued forward and struck a 2003 GMC Yukon driven by Bridgette Springer Moore 53, of Georgia causing it to travel off the roadway into the ditch. The International semi-tractor continued forward where it struck the rear of a 1999 Nissan Altima being driven by Karen Robbins 30, of Georgetown, Indiana and pushed it forward into the back of a 2014 Toyota Rav4 that was driven by Charles Willford 69, of Lafayette, Tennessee and a 2001 International Box truck being operated by Noble Culver 64, of West Chester, Ohio. The Nissan Altima became wedged under the box truck after being pushed forward by the semi-tractor.
Oldenburg was transported by ambulance to Schneck Medical Center where he was treated for a left hand injury. Oldenburg told troopers that traffic just stopped in front of him. Skinner was transported by STAT FLIGHT medical helicopter to Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis for treatment of a head and leg injury. Moore and her passenger Pamela Gunner 50, of Georgia each complained of pain in their back and were transported by ambulance to Schneck Medical Center. Robbins was trapped inside her vehicle. After being extricated by Seymour Fire-fighters, Robbins was transported to University of Louisville Hospital with internal injuries. Her ten month-old son was checked for injury on the scene and was released injury-free. Culver complained of pain in his neck. He was treated and released at the crash scene. Willford and his passenger, Patti Fletcher 61, of Lafayette, Tennessee were not injured.
Traffic was backed up due to road construction near the 45 mm. I-65 north lanes were closed for approximately five and one-half hours due to crash clean-up and reconstruction. Motorists traveling north on I-65 were diverted off the interstate onto US 31 at Uniontown.
Trooper Tolle and other troopers were assisted at the scene by the Jackson County Sheriff deputies, Crothersville and New Albany Police, Jackson County EMS, Seymour and Vernon Township Fire, Seymour division of INDOT, STAT Flight and IU Medical Lifeline medical transport, 31 Wrecker and Howard’s wrecker service.
