SUBJECT OF RELEASE: Personal Injury Crash
DATE AND TIME: 06/28/2015 at 1208 hours
LOCATION: Lake Road south of Stanton Road, Pine Township.
INFORMATON: Montcalm County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a car vs pedestrian accident Sunday afternoon on Lake Road in Pine Township. Robert Stephen Pelto, 54 year old of Holly Michigan, was walking his dirt bike along the roadway on Lake Road when he was struck from behind by a Saturn driven by 78 year old Fredrick Schultz of Greenville. Pelto had been participating in the Knuckle Buster Enduro Race, a dirt bike race where motorcycles travel through Montcalm County. It is believed that Pelto’s bike malfunctioned and Pelto was walking it along the road when the accident occurred. Pelto was seriously injured in the crash and airlifted from the scene by Aeromed to Spectrum Butterworth Hospital trauma unit, Grand Rapids.
At this time no citations have been issued as this incident remains under investigation.
Deputies were assisted by Montcalm County Emergency Medical Services and the Lakeview Fire Department.
