Public Safety Agencies Unite to Urge
Independence Day Safety
Los Angeles – With Independence Day quickly approaching, Los Angeles City, County and Federal public safety agencies, as well as local health officials, will hold a news conference Thursday to talk about the importance of fireworks safety. Leaders of the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD); Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD); Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD); Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD); Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF); and the Grossman Burn Center will discuss the harmful effects of illegal fireworks and what the public can do to have a safe Fourth of July.
Who: LAFD Fire Chief Ralph Terrazas, LACoFD Fire Chief Daryl Osby, LAPD Assistant Chief Jorge Villegas, LASD Assistant Sheriff Richard Barrantes, Grossman Burn Center Dr. Matt Young, M.D., firefighters, law enforcement officials, Grossman Burn Center staff and pyrotechnic team.
What: Law enforcement officials will discuss their efforts and penalties surrounding the use of illegal fireworks. Officials will announce the 2015 "Junior Fire Chiefs" –elementary school students who produced beautiful posters to help send the message to "Visit a Professional Fireworks Show" in Los Angeles County. There will also be an opportunity to ask questions regarding preparations for the Fourth of July holiday.

Visuals: Static displays of fire department and law enforcement vehicles. The bomb squad will display powerful confiscated illegal fireworks, and a pyrotechnic expert will demonstrate the potentially lethal power of illegal fireworks.
