WRPD OFFICER RESCUES DOG FROM HOT CAR

Dog Rescue Video

Today, your Wisconsin Rapids Police Department responded to a distressed dog locked in a car at a department store parking lot in Wisconsin Rapids. The outside Temp was 82 Degrees. The inside temp of the vehicle was likely around 114-119 degrees.

WRPD Officer Cody Wetterau arrived, found the car not running, doors locked, windows all of the way up and a distressed little dog trying to stay in the little bit of shade left in the car. He spoke with a witness who stated they had been sitting in their own vehicle for 30 minutes and the car was already parked and unattended. He also requested the owners of the vehicle get paged but they didn't come out of the store right away.

Officer Wetterau knew this little dog needed help, so using the same Vehicle Lock Out Tool used to enter and save a heart attack victim from a locked vehicle in July of 2013, Officer Wetterau made entry into the vehicle and rescued the little dog and placed him in the front seat of his squad car with the air conditioner on high.

Not long after the little dog was recovering with the air conditioning blowing in her face. Once the vehicle owners arrived it was explained what happened and what nearly happened to their dog from the heat. Although they were very apologetic, the incident will be forwarded to the Humane Officer for further follow-up.

We thank the person who called the WRPD when this little dog really needed somebody's help, and Officer Wetterau for taking swift action to rescue this little dog.

Please, leave your pets at home or somewhere safe when you go shopping. A little dog could have died today for no reason.
