Burglary suspect in custody

On July 2, 2015, Downey Officers arrested 30 year-old, Arturo Duarte (transient) for residential burglary. He was arrested while hiding inside a 2nd story apartment in the 7400 block of Firestone Place. The victim stated she walked into her kitchen and discovered that Duarte had entered the location through her balcony’s unlocked sliding glass door. A neighbor witnessed Duarte climbing onto the victim’s balcony and called the police. Responding officers found Duarte hiding in the victim’s bathroom and arrested him.

On June 27, 2015, Downey Officers responded to an apartment in the 11000 block of Haro Avenue, regarding a residential burglary. The victim stated she was asleep in her bedroom when she was awoken by a stranger lying in bed next to her. The stranger, who was later identified as suspect Duarte, entered through a bedroom window and assaulted the victim before fleeing the scene.

Downey Police Forensic Specialists identified Suspect Duarte as the suspect in the June 27th crime through DNA.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office reviewed these cases and filed (1) felony count of residential burglary, (1) misdemeanor count of sexual battery and (1) misdemeanor count of trespassing.
