Traffic stop leads to the discovery of illegal drugs and stolen property
BENTON, MISSOURI - Scott County Sheriff Rick Walter said a Benton area man has been arrested and charged with drug and property crimes.
Allen R. Basinger Jr. (34) Benton is charged with drug trafficking, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful use of drug paraphernalia, forgery, receiving stolen property and driving a motor vehicle with a suspended license.
Walter said Basinger was arrested Thursday night during a traffic stop when it was discovered he was operating a motorcycle without a valid license and numerous other traffic related offenses. During a search, Basinger was found to be in possession of what appeared to be a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. It was also discovered that the vehicle identification number on the frame of the motorcycle and the engine had been removed.
The vehicle stop lead to issuance of a search warrant for Basinger’s residence. During the search, a large bag of a crystal type substance believed to be methamphetamine was located. Seven smaller bags of a similar type substance also believed to be methamphetamine were located inside the residence. Numerous items of drug paraphernalia were located throughout the residence.
Walter estimated the street value of the controlled substance to be in the area of $23,000
Basinger remains in the Scott County Jail on a $25,000 bond.
