Evansville Man Arrested after Brief Chase

Evansville Man Arrested after Brief Chase

Vanderburgh County – Last night at approximately 9:20, Trooper Lucas Zeien was operating stationary radar on the Lloyd Expressway near Martin Luther King Boulevard when he observed a Ford Taurus traveling west at a high rate of speed. Zeien utilized his radar and clocked the vehicle at 87 in a 50 mph zone. Zeien activated his emergency lights and siren, but the driver continued to travel west at a high rate of speed and then abruptly turned north onto Wabash Avenue.  The driver then turned left onto Illinois Street and traveled on several other city streets before stopping on 12th Avenue just north of the Lloyd Expressway. The male driver exited his vehicle and fled on foot across the Lloyd Expressway.  His vehicle was not put into park and it rolled back striking Zeien’s patrol car. The male continued to flee by running south on the railroad tracks next to Ray Becker Parkway toward Claremont Avenue. The driver was eventually taken into custody by Zeien and an off-duty Vincennes Police Officer who had stopped to assist when he observed the suspect fleeing. The driver was identified as Chase Ferguson, 22, of Evansville.  When officers searched his vehicle they found a small amount of marijuana. Further investigation revealed Ferguson was impaired and had a blood alcohol content of .11%.  Ferguson was taken to the Vanderburgh County Jail where he is currently being held without bond.
