PRESS RELEASE FOR THE WEEK OF
July 13 - 19, 2015
Any charges reported in this press release are merely accusations and the Defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
7/13
Disturbance Noise: A report of an alarm going off somewhere between Ptarmigan and Coast Guard Housing was received. An Officer investigated the area but the alarm was reset before he arrived.
Missing Person: A wife called in to report her husband went on a motorcycle ride to Valdez. He checked out of the hotel on the 11th to return home and has not made it home yet. They live in Tok. Wife called back later and said she made contact with him.
Bear Related Call: A caller reported a problem black bear in Valdez Mobile Home Park that had been hanging around for 5 days. It had been reported on porches and in dumpsters and does not scare off easily. The Animal Control Officer spoke with the Park Manager, checked all the dumpsters to make sure they were secure and patrolled the area looking for the bear. There was no bear in the area and only one dumpster was unsecured.
Domestic Assault: A brother reported his sister was hit by her boyfriend. Officers investigated the incident and subsequently made an arrest at the scene.
Arrest: Christopher L. Harnden, DOB 08/04/1986, of Valdez was arrested for DV Assault 4th Degree.
Bear Related Call: An officer responded to the tide flats for crowd control due to a bear in the area.
Animal at Large: Two dogs were reported running at large. A Community Service Officer responded, contacted the owners and gave them some leashes for the dogs.
Theft Vehicle: A report of a tow truck taken from the location it had been parked at was received. An Officer investigated this incident told the complainant that it appears to be a civil matter.
Agency Assistance: A caller requested to be transferred to Matcom to have officers check on his wife who became unresponsive while on the phone with him. She lives in Palmer. Dispatch transferred him to Matcom and verified later that he got through.
Disturbance Noise: A complaint regarding construction going on at the harbor project was received. An Officer responded to the area and the noise was under the allowed decibel level.

Welfare Check: An off-duty Community Service Officer reported a van camping at old town. The tide was coming in and water was up to the vehicles wheels. The Community Safety Officer was able to wake up the owner and he drove himself out of the water.
Disturbance Noise: A report of loud voices coming from the house across the street was received. An Officer responded to the area, noise wasn’t extremely loud but they did have music going and their voices were carrying farther than they realized. They agreed to turn down the music and talk quieter.
Theft from Vehicle: A caller reported that someone broke into their vehicle and took about $20 worth of belongings sometime during the night. The caller believed it was a male since there were expensive shoes in the car that wasn’t taken. This case is currently under investigation.
Suspicious Person: A caller reported on July 11th, that around 1AM, an intoxicated male entered her residence (she was not home but her brother was) and grabbed a beer from the fridge and made himself at home. The dog alerted and scared him off. Male was described as tall, thin, white, with an Irish cap.
Theft from Vehicle: A caller reported someone broke into his vehicle during the night and took his Oakley sunglasses and iPhone 5. An Officer talked with the complainant and the case is under investigation.
Child Neglect: A report of an older Dodge pickup truck, black in color, heading inbound had a toddler not in a car seat standing in the passenger seat. An officer responded and found the vehicle at a local business. Kids were all appropriately secured at the time, no infractions.
Bike Patrol: An officer went on bike patrol in the Harbor area and made contact with an individual who wanted to discuss bike patrol.
Theft from Vehicle: A caller reported multiple items stolen out of his vehicle while it was parked in his driveway. Two iPods, change and a lanyard were among some of the items missing. This case is currently under investigation.
Domestic Assault: A caller reported a man smashed in his headlights and mirror on his truck with a baseball bat and then drove off. Officers were able to contact the suspect shortly thereafter. Subsequent investigation led to an arrest.

Arrest: William C. Brubaker, DOB 12/18/1987, of Valdez was arrested for Assault 3rd Degree, Criminal Mischief 4th Degree and Tampering with Physical Evidence.
Bench Warrant: Brandon L. Madrid, DOB 12/25/1988, of Anchorage was arrested on an outstanding $250 failure to appear for calendar call warrant. Origal charge: Violating Conditions of Release.
Welfare Check: A man reported a couple “fooling around” on the dock point trail while he was up there taking pictures of the sunset. When he walked back down the girl was crying. An Officer responded to the area and contacted some people at the gazebo who said there was a car here but they hadn’t seen anyone else go up or down the trail since then. The officer hiked the trail but did not see anyone.
Bike Patrol: An officer was on bike patrol around Valdez Mobile Home Park, everything appeared to be fine.
eneral Contact: While on patrol an officer contacted two people on Alatna St. Alcohol was involved, but both parties were ok.
Bike Patrol: An officer went on bike patrol from Alatna down to Hanagita. Everything was fine in the area.
Animal at Large: A caller reported a black lab at large on Robe River Dr. after she almost hit it. The Animal Control Officer was able to catch it and two other dogs and return them to their owners.
General Contact: An Officer spoke to someone who was having issues with a tenant.
Traffic Hazard: A caller reported debris in the roadway. An officer responded and removed a five gallon bucket of fuel.
Camping Prohibited Area: While on patrol an officer noticed people camping at the Animal Shelter. He advised them that they could not camp there and informed them where they could camp.
Found Property: A credit card was left at the museum and turned into the Police Department.
Assault Information Only: A caller requested to speak with an officer about filing assault charges against a former co-worker. This case is currently under investigation.
Disturbance Noise: A caller reported a beeping sound coming from a man lift outside of Copper Valley Telephone. An officer responded and was able to shut off the equipment.

Arrest: Thomas C. Watson, DOB 10/15/1981, of Valdez was arrested for MICS 4th. He remains in Jail until he posts Bail of $5,000 and has a Court Appointed Third Party.
Stop FI: While on patrol an officer contacted two individuals in front of the Pipeline who were having an argument. The situation was deescalated and both individuals parted ways amicably.
Disturbance Other: A caller reported an individual acting aggressive and would like them to be trespassed from the property. An officer responded, located the individual, and trespassed her from the business.
Serve Time: Daniela Princz-Pineda, DOB 08/03/1995, of Valdez checked in to serve time: 45 days with 42 days suspended for a DUI.
Bear Related Calls: A report of a bear at Valdez Mobile Home Park was received. The Animal Control Officer responded.
Disturbance Other: A caller reported a man is being disruptive. An officer responded and advised the person of his trespass. He left the area.
Trespassing: A caller reported a man being disruptive and would like him trespassed from their place of business. An officer responded and trespassed the man from the business.
Arrest: Michael G. Holland, DOB 11/22/1967, of Valdez was arrested for Criminal Mischief 4th Degree, Disorderly Conduct (2), Disorderly Conduct (5), Disorderly Conduct (6) and Obstruction of Highways (2).
Welfare Check: A caller requested a welfare check on his best friend who had a possible brain bleed. An Officer responded and transported the person to the hospital.
Possible Drunk Driver: A report of a black Jeep Cherokee with a female driver wearing striped shirt and glasses was received. An Officer located the vehicle and the driver was negative for alcohol.
Found Property: A caller reported a bicycle has been at Dock Point for a few days. If you have lost your bike, come to the Police Department with further identifiers to claim.
Information Report: A report of a white van with Santrina Cleaning Services is not licensed with the State of Alaska or the City of Valdez and is going door to door. An Officer responded to the area but the van had already left the area.
Assault Simple: A caller reported a dispute with her partner by No Name Creek. Officers responded to the area and located the people involved. They were separated for the night.
Harassment: A caller reported his ex-girlfriend is harassing him with phone calls and text messages. An officer contacted him and told him to bring the evidence to VPD. The caller reported he was too tired and would bring it in later.

Citizen Assist: An officer was requested to accompany an individual while he retrieved medications from a residence.
Arrest Warrant: Blayne E. Joseph, DOB 2/17/194, of Valdez was arrested for MISC 4th. She remains in custody until she posts bail of $5000 and has a Court Appointed Third Party.
Litter, Pollution, Public Health: A report of an out of state vehicle throwing beer cans all through town on the main highway… started at Egan, all the way to Kwik Trip was received. The vehicle was described as a 2011 white Ford Ranger, extended cab truck with a sticker on back driver window. An officer responded to the area of Kwik Trip and patrolled out the road but the vehicle had left the scene.
Traffic Hazard: A report of an overturned basketball hoop in the roadway was received. An Officer responded to the area and found an overturned hoop on private property.
Loitering: A caller reported people loitering at a B&B, parking in the parking lot and going to another business. Officers are monitoring the area.

Disturbance Noise: Callers reported loud noises from the Harbor Project. An officer responded to the area and talked with the blasting crew who stated they only had 2 more holes to drill and would be moving to the back side.
Theft of Property: A backpack was reported stolen from a local business. Officers investigated, located a suspect, and were able to recover the property.
Summonsed: Daniel A. White, DOB: 7/6/96, was issued a summons for Theft in the Third Degree, a Class A misdemeanor.
Lost Property: A Bowtech RPM 360 compound bow was lost on Airport Road. It is camouflage in a case with arrows. If found please turn into the Police Department.
Disturbance Other: A caller reported a male and female arguing; she was inside and locked the male outside. He walked away but came back and went through a window. An officer responded and spoke with a male individual who stated he had just got off work and was talking loudly on the phone through the window. No further action required.
Possible Drunk Driver: A caller reported an orange Dodge truck almost t-boned him by First National Bank. Officers located the vehicle parked at a local hotel but were unable to contact a driver.

Assist EMS Crew: Officers assisted EMS personnel after receiving a report of a man who wrecked his 4-wheeler off of Dayville Road on the Pipeline access road.
Suspicious Vehicle: A caller reported a Mercedes driving up and down the street pulling into people’s driveways and is now parked in front of her house. An officer responded to the area to find a Mercedes camper with people sleeping in it. The officer advised them that they could not park there and showed them where they could park.
Animal Information: A caller reported a dog locked in a vehicle across from J dock at the Small Boat Harbor. A Community Safety Officer responded and monitored the dog.
Traffic Complaint: A caller reported a red sport hatchback Mazda peeled out in front of her and sprayed gravel all over her vehicle. Officers are keeping a look out for the vehicle.
Lost Property: A woman reported her black coach wallet was lost at Safeway. If found please return to the Police department.
Animal at Large: A caller reported a white/blonde/reddish medium to large dog was at large. An officer responded and located the dog who was returned to its’ owner.
Missing Person: A grandmother called to report her granddaughter missing. She was last seen wearing black pants, pink blouse, and open toed sandals. Officers responded to the area and the girl was found behind a local business.
