Resident Evacuates Home Due To Cooking Fire
Maricopa, ARIZ. (July 20, 2015) At approximately 4:20 PM, Maricopa Fire crews responded to a residence in the 45000 block of West Ranch Road for a reported stove fire. Engine 574 arrived to find a fire on the stove that had started to extend into the cabinets. The fire was quickly extinguished and the smoke filled home was ventilated with a fan.
The smoke detector in this house nearest to the kitchen had not been working. This fire occurred during the day and while the resident was cooking, so the family was able to evacuate the house immediately. If this incident had occurred at night, the family could have lost precious time to get out due to the non-working smoke detector. This incident should remind us all to check the condition and the operation of all smoke detectors in our homes.
The City of Maricopa Fire Department urges all residents to clean and replace batteries on their smoke detectors twice a year.
