The Florida Law Enforcement Liaison Program
The Florida Law Enforcement Liaison (LEL) Program is a grant-funded program sponsored by the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The goal of the LEL program is to reduce traffic related fatalities and injuries by working with law enforcement agencies across the state to boost the usage of safety belts, reduce drunk driving, and encourage traffic safety initiatives.
The Eustis Police Department meets quarterly with agencies throughout the region at the Law Enforcement Area Network (LEAN) meetings to discuss local traffic safety issues, which include implementation of the Florida Department of Transportation and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s traffic safety initiatives.
These initiatives are divided into categories in which agencies participate and are ranked according to size of agency. The initiatives include Click it or Ticket , Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over, The Florida Law Enforcement Challenge (FLEC), Florida DUI Challenge (DUI), and the Click it or Ticket (CIOT) Challenge. These programs have been designed to promote traffic safety through increased enforcement, reducing the number of overall crashes, and increasing the seat belt usage rate.
The Eustis Police Department is proud to announce its placing third in two of the categories, Click It or Ticket and DUI Challenge. This is the second year for Eustis Police Department to place in the annual LEL program. It is the combined efforts of all personnel at the department that has helped the Florida Law Enforcement Liaison (LEL) Program recognize Eustis Police Department’s level of commitment to traffic safety and its community.
