Corona Police Explorer's Sixth Academy Class
On July 19, 2014, the Corona Police Department began hosting its Sixth Police Explorer Academy. The academy is a week-long and culminates with a graduation ceremony on Saturday, July 25, 2015. Twenty one young men and women are enrolled in this year’s explorer academy. Each day the explorers receive instruction in a class setting, on subjects such as career choices, leadership, lifetime fitness, handcuffing, K-9 tactics and communications. The police department’s mission, vision, values and pillars of success are an important component of instruction throughout this week. The goal of the academy is to give these young men and women life skills, leadership and character development. The academy will also introduce the explorers to what it means to be a public servant.
The Corona Police Explorer Post #404 is the second oldest continuous law enforcement post in the U.S. and was established in 1966. Many of the current academy staff who are teaching the explorers are former explorers and graduates of the Corona Police Explorer Academy. The academy staff is giving back to the very program which gave them so much. The Corona Police Explorer Academy is a great experience but only one aspect of the Corona Police Department Explorer Program which takes great pride in developing young men and women interested in a career in law enforcement.
