Lawrenceburg Man Killed, Two Others Injured In Head-On Crash On I-74

West Harrison – A Lawrenceburg man was killed and two other people were seriously injured in a head-on collision on I-74 early this morning.

On July 22, 2015 around 12:07 AM, Indiana State Police and Dearborn County Sheriff Department responded to a report of a personal injury crash on I-74 near the 164mm. Indiana State Police Trooper Cameron McCreary stated that a white 2015 Chevy Equinox being driven by Larry Duenhoft (age unknown), of Lawrenceburg was traveling westbound in the east lanes of I-74 near the Saint Leon exit when it collided with a 2005 Kenworth semi-tractor trailer combination that was driven by Felipe De Jesus 56, of  Mexico. Duenhoft was entrapped in the vehicle and later pronounced dead at the scene. The impact of the crash and debris littered the east travel lanes of I-74.

A passenger in Duenhoft’s car, Brett Duenhoft (age unknown) also of Lawrenceburg, was trapped in the car as well and had to be extricated by Sunman/Saint Leon Fire personnel. Brett Duenhoft was transported to University of Cincinnati Hospital by Air Care medical helicopter facing life threatening internal injury. De Jesus was trapped inside his truck as well and required extrication. De Jesus was transported to University of Cincinnati Hospital as well, facing critical internal injury.

The east lanes of I-74 were closed for nearly five hours to reconstruct the crash and clear the crash scene.

Indiana State Police Sgt. Mark Helms is conducting a reconstruction of the crash.

Trooper McCreary was assisted at the scene by Trooper James Herbert, Sgt. Mark Helms, Dearborn County Sheriff department,  Air Care medical helicopter, Sunman/Saint Leon Fire and Schaffer’s Towing.

West Harrison – (update) The two people injured in a head-on collision between a Chevy Equinox and Kenworth semi-tractor remain hospitalized at the University of Cincinnati Hospital.

According to Indiana State Police Trooper Cameron McCreary, Brett Duenhoft of Lawrenceburg and a passenger in the Chevy Equinox is in critical condition after the head-on collision that claimed the life of Larry Duenhoft early Wednesday morning. The driver of the truck, Felipe De Jesus of Mexico, is in serious condition at the Cincinnati medical facility. The investigation is continuing to determine why Larry Duenhoft was traveling westbound in the east lanes of I-74.
