Driver Pulled from Submerged Vehicle in Big Bower Lake
Steuben County - Just after 3:30 p.m. today officers with the Indiana State Police and the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department responded to the report of a vehicle that was driven into Big Bower Lake. Reportedly the vehicle was south bound on Golden Lake Road near 325 West.
Trooper Chris Kinsey and Deputy Brian Noll with the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department arrived to find a partially submerged vehicle. Trooper Kinsey stripped off his duty belt and entered the water in an attempt to locate the driver. Kinsey first attempted to open the doors to the vehicle but was unsuccessful. He then utilized a window punch and was able to shatter the rear window of the car. After clearing the window of the remaining glass Steuben County Underwater Rescue diver Jason Fager and Kinsey were successful in locating and removing the driver from the vehicle. The driver was taken from the scene by Samaritan helicopter to Parkview North Hospital. The name of the driver is not being released at this time and their condition is unknown. The crash is being investigated by the Steuben County Sheriff’s Department and questions should be directed to them. Also assisting at the scene was the Angola Fire Department, Steuben EMS, and the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. |
