Single vehicle crash lands vehicle in the Honey Creek.
At 1:15pm this afternoon Riley Fire Department along with the Vigo County Sheriff's Office responded to State Road 46 at Lama Street in Southeastern Vigo County in reference to a single vehicle crash. Upon arrival responders found a 2002 Mercury resting in the Honey Creek. The vehicle was being operated by Yvonne Brown, 72, of Terre Haute. The vehicle was traveling North on State Road 46 and left the roadway just prior to crossing the Honey Creek bridge. The vehicle traveled several hundred feet off the roadway and came to rest in the creek. The driver was transported by Riley FD to Regional Hospital for evaluation but did not appear to have suffered any injuries in the crash. Hazardous materials absorbent booms were placed in the creek to prevent the vehicle fluids from entering the stream. The vehicle was quickly removed from the creek by Edington's Wrecker Service. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management was notified and the booms were able recover most of the vehicle fluids. State Road 46 was reduced to one lane during the operation but was re-opened at 3pm. Further details of the crash can be provided by the Vigo County Sheriff Office.
