Farrington Hwy. Main Repair -- PM Update
Board of Water Supply (BWS) crews continue repairs on the 24-inch main on Farrington Hwy., near Nanakuli Beach Park, that broke yesterday at about 4:30 PM. The break is on a transmission main that provides the Leeward Coast with about 60 percent of its water supply. The BWS continues to ask all residents from Honokai Hale to Waianae to please use water sparingly and for priority needs until further notice. This means using water for cooking, drinking, and personal hygiene.
Farrington Hwy. from Piliokahi Ave. to Nanakuli Ave. remains closed to all traffic to allow the Board of Water Supply to complete the repair work. Repairs to the main had to be put on hold while repairs were made to a sewer line that was accidentally damaged during the repair process. The sewage was contained to the bottom of the trench, below the BWS main, and removed. Prior to putting the repaired main into service, the BWS will flush out and disinfect the main, according to standard operating procedures for main repairs. The BWS has also arranged for a paving contractor to start repaving one lane early this evening.
Special duty officers remain on site and motorists are advised to expect delays, plan ahead, and to drive with caution.
The BWS sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience to the community as a result of this main break and appreciates the patience and cooperation of residents and motorists who have been affected by it.
