Gary, Lake County – The Indiana State Police Lowell District investigated a crash, this Monday, July 27, 2015, afternoon that injured a motorcyclist.
Preliminary investigation by Corporal Daniel Avitia revealed at approximately 1:49 p.m., a 1996 green Kawasaki motorcycle sports bike, being driven by Jason Emard, 34, of New Carlisle, Indiana, rear ended a 2012 Honda Civic on I80 east bound at the 10.7 mile marker (this is just east of the Broadway exit). The Civic was driven by Kevin Leroy, 25, of Algonquin, Illinois.
A semi that was in the left middle lane changed lanes to the right middle lane causing Leroy to move to the right lane to avoid a crash. When Leroy changed lanes, Emard rear ended Leroy’s Honda in the right lane. Emard then went off the roadway and crashed into the outer shoulder concrete barrier wall. Emard was thrown from the motorcycle. He was transported to Methodist North Lake Hospital in Gary with non life threatening injuries. Emard was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash. Leroy was wearing his seatbelt and was not injured.
