Heat Advisory
HEAT ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 9 PM CDT THIS EVENING...
* AFTERNOON TEMPERATURES IN THE LOWER 90S COMBINED WITH OPPRESSIVE HUMIDITY LEVELS WILL PRODUCE HEAT INDEX VALUES IN THE 105 TO 110 DEGREE RANGE THIS AFTERNOON
* A HEAT INDEX OF 105 IS GENERALLY CONSIDERED THE THRESHOLD WHERE THE BODY BEGINS TO SUCCUMB TO THE EFFECTS OF THE HEAT... MAKING HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE A GREATER CONCERN IF PRECAUTIONS ARE NOT TAKEN.
PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...
A HEAT ADVISORY MEANS THAT A PERIOD OF HOT TEMPERATURES AND HIGH HUMIDITY LEVELS ARE EXPECTED. THIS COMBINATION WILL CREATE A SITUATION IN WHICH HEAT ILLNESSES ARE POSSIBLE. IF YOU WORK OR PLAN TO SPEND MUCH TIME OUTSIDE...TAKE FREQUENT BREAKS AND DRINK PLENTY OF FLUIDS. IF POSSIBLE...STAY IN AN AIR-CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENT...STAY OUT OF THE SUN AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE...AND CHECK UP ON RELATIVES AND NEIGHBORS.
