New Albany Man Arrested for Theft of Military Items

New Albany Man Arrested for Theft of Military Items

New Albany-On November 18, 2014, the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg received a complaint of burglary and theft from the National Guard Armory located in New Albany, IN. During the theft several items were taken including; police style tasers, taser cartridges, police style pepper spray and other police/military style items.

Shortly after this, items like the ones taken started appearing on social media sites for sale. Detective Rachel Abbott from the Indiana State Police Post at Sellersburg was able to recover these items. During her continued investigation she was able to find other items that had been stolen totaling to approximately $10,300.00.

As the case progressed, Detective Abbott was able to obtain enough probable cause to request an arrest warrant out of the Floyd County Circuit Court in New Albany. As a result of the request on May 13th an arrest warrant was issued for Cody K. Proffitt, 23, from New Albany. The arrest warrant was for Theft, a Level Six Felony.

Cody K. Proffitt was arrested early this morning and is being housed at the Clark County Jail awaiting extradition to Floyd County.

Although an arrest has taken place, troopers are still searching for several items that have not been located. There are seven tasers along with more police style pepper spray and numerous live and training style taser cartridges, a USB Data Download Port and several pouches that are used to hold the police style pepper spray when not in use.

Anyone with information on the missing articles is encouraged to contact Detective Rachel Abbott at the Sellersburg State Police Post at 1-800-872-6743 or 812-246-5424. All callers can remain anonymous.

Media Note-A photo of Cody K. Proffitt is attached. Sgt. Goodin will not be available for in person interviews until tomorrow.
