National Night Out Tuesday August 4, 2015

On Tuesday, August 4, 2015, beginning at 6:00 p.m., neighborhoods throughout Cypress are being invited to join forces with thousands of communities nationwide for “National Night Out” (NNO) a crime and drug prevention event. National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW) and co-sponsored locally by the Cypress Police Department, will involve over 15,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities, and military bases around the world. In all, over 37 million people are expected to participate in ‘America’s Night Out Against Crime.

National Night Out is designated to: (1) Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness; (2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anti-crime efforts; (3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and (4) Send a message to criminals letting them know neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

This year the Cypress Police Department will partner with the Seal Beach Police Department, Los Alamitos Police Department, Seal Beach Marine Safety, Seal Beach Naval Weapons Station, Los Alamitos Police Department, and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department. The event will take place at the Target Shopping Center’s northern parking lot (12300 Seal Beach Boulevard, Seal Beach CA). Target and Ralph’s will be hosting a hotdog/beverage stand. It will be an evening of information and interaction with public safety. The Community Services Unit, Traffic Safety Unit, K-9 Unit, and S.W.A.T. team will be present with a display of specialized equipment.

“This event is a great way to build police-community partnerships and have a good time visiting with our Police Officers,” says Cypress Mayor Rob Johnson.

On August 4, 2015, from 6:00 p.m. until sunset, residents in neighborhoods throughout Cypress and across the nation are asked to lock their doors, turn on outside lights, and spend the evening outside with neighbors and police.
