Officer Involved Shooting Investigation Update From 8-3-2015
Suspect/Arrested: Armando Antunez (24) Santa Ana
On August 3, 2015, at approximately 6pm, Gang Enforcement Officers were conducting a patrol check in the area of 800 South Townsend. Recently, this area has been plagued with increased violent gang crime and is part of a current gang injunction. Officers saw several gang members loitering in the alley and attempted to contact them. One of the suspects was armed with a handgun and a short foot pursuit ensued resulting in an officer involved shooting. A loaded semi-automatic handgun was recovered at the scene. The suspect was transported to a local hospital to receive treatment for two gunshot wounds to the torso and hand.
The suspect, Armando Antunez, was arrested for various weapons violations, gang enhancements and a probation violation.
The Orange County District Attorney’s Office and the Santa Ana Police Department, Crimes Against Persons Detectives responded to the scene to conduct a joint investigation.
