The Columbia Township Police Department is currently investigating a case involving a fleeing-and-eluding charge (on a motorcycle), as well as a stolen golf cart.
At approximately 5:30 A.M. on Sunday, July 28, Officer Kevin Szentmiklosi was on patrol on Case Road, near Antcliff Road, when he observed a suspicious subject on a motorcycle. Upon turning around to further investigate, he observed a second subject climbing on the motorcycle. He then located a golf cart that was abandoned in the immediate area.
He attempted to stop the motorcycle, which fled the area, and eventually went westbound on M-124 into the village of Brooklyn. He continued to pursue the motorcycle through the village, then eastbound on M-124, at which time he lost sight of it.
The golf cart was impounded, and after substantial investigation, was determined to have been recently sold at an online auction on the internet, to a person from Jackson. It was ultimately determined that the cart was stolen from a body shop on S. Meridian Road, just South of Jackson.
Although evidence was processed from the recovered golf cart, the suspects have not yet been identified, and anyone with information on this investigation is asked to contact the Columbia Township Police Department at 517-592-3122.
