Landrum Woman Charged with First Degree Murder of Polk County Man

Polk County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division has charged Brittany Crockett of Landrum, SC with First Degree Murder of Jeffrey Scott Brittain, 51 of Mill Spring, NC.

On Wednesday, July 29, 2015, Brittain’s family notified Polk County Sheriff’s Office Capt. BJ Bayne they suspected he had been poisoned. The allegations were that Crockett had poisoned Brittain. The family related that after Brittain was released from St. Luke’s Hospital as having an allergic reaction to his medication, on the 29th of July, he was admitted to Rutherford Regional Medical Center. Medical doctors were unable to diagnose the cause of his condition.

After conducting several interviews it was determined that Crockett had in fact given Brittain some type of substance. The chemical has been located and sent to the Federal Bureau of Investigations Laboratory in Quantico, VA for analyzation as to determine the exact content of the substance. Sheriff’s Investigators have a preliminary finding of what the material is however still waiting for completion of the laboratory report.

Brittain’s medical conditions continued to worsen and became irreversible with him passing away this morning at Rutherford Regional Medical Center.

Brittany Crockett, 27 of Butter Street Landrum, SC has been formerly charged with First Degree Murder. She had her first court appearance today appearing before District Court Judge Brooks who gave Crockett no bond. Crockett waived court appointed attorney in order to retain her own attorney. Crockett has a next court appearance of August 26.
