Macy - This morning at approximately 1:15 a.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single vehicle crash on U.S. 31 near Miami County Road 1200 North, in which a Rochester man died.
The preliminary crash investigation by Trooper Todd Trottier revealed that Phillip Nicklaus, 24, Rochester, IN, was driving a 1999 Harley Davidson motorcycle northbound on U.S. 31 near Miami County Road 1200 North. For an undetermined reason, Nicklaus applied the motorcycle’s brakes, causing the bike to slide onto its side. Nicklaus, who was not wearing a helmet, was ejected from the motorcycle.
Nicklaus died at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash.
This is an ongoing investigation.
