Traffic Stop Nets Drugs, Money, and Guns

Daviess County (Washington): A traffic stop late Tuesday night put two teenagers behind bars and took drugs, money, and weapons off the streets.

Around 10:36 P.M. Tuesday, Trooper Mitchell Wier observed a blue 1991 Ford Festiva traveling east on Vantrees Street and make a right hand turn onto Northwest 6th Street. The Ford traveled left of center, nearly driving into the grass on the wrong side of the road. Trooper Wier initiated a traffic stop on the Ford, and spoke with the driver, Zachary E. Johnson, 18, Washington. While speaking with Johnson, Trooper Wier could smell the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Johnson handed Trooper Wier a small bag of marijuana he was keeping in his shirt pocket.

With the assistance of Washington Police Department Sergeant Brandon Humphries and Sergeant Derrick Devine, along with Divine’s K9 partner “Diesel”, Wier searched the Ford and found a backpack containing over a quarter-pound of marijuana, a .22 caliber handgun, a pellet gun, and numerous cell phones. The investigation revealed that the backpack belonged to a 17-year-old passenger. A large amount of money was also found on both teenagers.

Johnson was taken into custody and transported to the Daviess County Security Center. The 17-year-old was transported to the Washington Police Department, where he was additionally found to be in possession of methamphetamine. He was transported and lodged at the Southwest Juvenile Center in Vincennes.
