As part of the effort to curb the increasing number of serious and fatal motor vehicle accidents occurring on Route 539, a traffic enforcement initiative will commence this coming Saturday. Increased police presence and a safety enforcement initiative will take place 08/15/12 - 09/14/15. Police will bring vigilant and aggressive enforcement to all those motor vehicle violations, moving and equipment, that are major contributing causes in motor vehicle crashes, including but not limited to: improper passing; excessive speed; D.W.I.; aggressive driving; improper turning; distracted driving; following too close.
Being a shore community, we expect that many of our summertime residents and visitors travel Route 539 to get to LBI. Please, use extra caution when traveling to and from the shore, especially on this stretch of road. Abide by all motor vehicle laws, obey posted signs, and be sure all of your documents (DL, registration, and insurance card) are up-to-date and are in your vehicle BEFORE you operate it.
Be a defensive driver and always keep your eyes on the road.
