K9 Turbo Receives New Police Vehicle
Kennesaw, Ga. (August 13, 2015) K9 Turbo gets a new ride. The Kennesaw Police Department has purchased a new special service vehicle for its K9 unit. The 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe, which was purchased with forfeited funds, replaced the aging Ford Crown Victoria. The older vehicle was struggling to meet the safety needs required by the K9, especially on high temperature days.
The new Police Package Tahoe is equipped with dual air conditioning units, one specifically for K9 Turbo's kennel area, and an American Aluminum 'EZ Rider' kennel insert. This kennel is a specially constructed all-aluminum powder coated kennel that replaces the back seat. It is designed for the comfort and safety of the K9 during his shift. The vehicle is also equipped with an AceK9 'Hot n Pop Pro' heat alarm/door popper with the ‘Fan and No Dog Left Behind’ option. The ‘No Dog Left Behind’ option consists of a special alarm that will activate if the K9 is not removed from the vehicle within 10 minutes after the vehicle has been turned off. In addition to the alarm, the vehicle will automatically open the windows and turn on two interior fans which circulate the hot air outside.
K9 Turbo is a 3 year old, male German Shepherd purchased from Shallow Creek Kennels in Sharpsville, PA. Turbo was imported from Slovakia and started with Kennesaw PD when he was13 months old. Turbo was trained by Officer Wallace Morton as a dual purpose canine in Patrol and Narcotics. His working abilities consist of: Apprehension, Handler Protection, Building Search, Area Search, Tracking, Article Search, and Narcotics Detection (Marijuana, Heroin, Methamphetamine, Cocaine). K9 Turbo lives with Ofc Morton, his family, and retired K9 Bady.
