PRESS RELEASE

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
August 18, 2015

The Southern Pines Police Department Congratulates Investigator Greg Powers for Completing the Victim Service Practitioner Certification Academy.

The Southern Pines Police Department is pleased to congratulate Investigator Greg Powers for completing the Victim Service Practitioner Certification Academy. The Southern Pines Police Department has established guidelines for providing victims and witnesses of crime with consistent, professional services though our Victim/Witness Assistance Program. Investigator Powers is the newest member of this program.

Investigator Greg Powers recently attended Campbell Law School in Raleigh where the certification training was hosted. The North Carolina Victim Service Practitioner Academy was established in 2002, by the North Carolina Victim Assistance Network, in collaboration with other victim service agencies to create a statewide standard in victim services. The goal of the certification program is a measurable level of professional recognition while ensuring effective services for crime victims.

The North Carolina Victim Assistance Network provided the following information about the certification program:

“The NC Victim Service Practitioner Certification Program is a program that is designed to certify those who provide services to victims of crime. The purpose of this training is to unite all persons in North Carolina who currently have experience in serving crime victims. Though many are seasoned in providing services to victims, the certification program aims to set a uniform standard for training professionals in crime victim’s services in North Carolina. Through an application process and ensuing training academy, service providers may become certified in areas of crime victim services.”

The Southern Pines Police Department makes every reasonable effort to assure that the personal rights and safety of the victim or witness are protected. Members of the Southern Pines Police Department are particularly sensitive to the special needs of the victims and families of crimes such as domestic violence, child abuse, sexual assault, and abuse of the elderly because of their effect on the delicate structure of the family unit and the community in general.
