On August 19, 2015 at about 10:52 A.M., members of the Burlington Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the intersection of South Winooski Ave. and College St. for a report of a motor vehicle accident involving a vehicle and bicycle. Upon arrival, it was determined that the bicycle was actually a battery powered scooter and the operator of the scooter, Joan Knight (age 76 of Burlington), was transported to the University of Vermont Medical Center – Emergency Room (UVMMC-ER) where she was treated for moderate injuries.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Joan Martin (age 86 of Burlington) was travelling south on South Winooski Ave. As Martin proceeded to turn east onto College St. she collided with Knight who was traveling north on South Winooski Ave. Knight was operating on the right side of the travel portion of the right hand lane. At the time, the traffic signal was green for north/south traffic on South Winooski Ave.
