Please be aware of increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic with the beginning of school Monday, August 24th, 2015.
The Port Neches Police Department would like to remind citizens to be aware of increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic with the beginning of a new school year.
Many school zones will be congested more than usual the first few days of school as first time students are escorted into schools by parents. This can be a traumatic experience for both the students and parents. BE PATIENT! Leave early, obey the speed limits, and avoid distractions while driving. Use of cell phones in the school zones are prohibited.
School Crossing Guards- Again, be patient, the school crossing guards are responsible for safely crossing children in the designated crosswalks. DO NOT drop children off to cross a street at any place other than a designated cross walk.
School Buses- It is a violation of State Law to pass a school bus while it is loading or unloading children.
Also, be aware of children on bicycles or pedestrians travelling to and from schools from their homes.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Port Neches Police Dept. at 409-722-1424.
