On Wednesday, August 19, 2015, at about 3:30 p.m., a 14-year-old female student from Centennial High School was approached by a male as she walked home from school. The male, later identified as Luis Manuel Loera, 24-year-old, from San Bernardino, approached the victim in the area of Rimpau Avenue, south of Ontario Avenue, where he offered her money and a trip to Castle Park. Loera offered to give the victim a ride home but when she refused he made contact with her a second time near Citrus Park. The victim notified the police and provided them with a suspect and vehicle description.

On Friday, August 21, 2015, Corona Police Department School Resource Officer and Detectives were able to locate and arrest Luis Manuel Loera for child annoyance, a misdemeanor crime. In light of suspicious activity in and around local school districts, please review the following safety tips with your children.

• Don’t talk to strangers
• Don’t take anything from strangers
• Don’t go anywhere with someone you don’t know
• Stay more than an arm’s reach from strangers
• If you are approached by a stranger, seek help immediately
• Trust your instincts, if you feel you are being followed or something is not right, seek help immediately
• Use the buddy system, avoid walking anywhere alone
• When seeking help, always go to a trusted adult– teacher, coach, police officer, parent, or older siblings
• If a stranger grabs you, do everything you can to stop him or her from pulling you away. Drop to the ground, kick, hit, bite and scream. Do whatever it takes to attract the attention of others who can help you. If someone is dragging you away, scream, “this is not my dad,” or “this is not my mom.”
• Report any suspicious activity to your local school and police department
