The Steuben County Sheriff’s Office is investigating some 17 reports of thefts from vehicles in the northeast corner of the county. There have also been several reports of thefts from vehicles in the Town of Fremont that are being investigated by the Fremont Police Department. The crimes appeared to have occurred over approximately the last two weeks during the overnight hours. The Sheriff’s Office would like to remind citizens to make sure any and all valuables are removed from vehicles and double check to make sure that vehicles are locked when parked outside. Citizens are also reminded to make sure that their garage doors are shut. These precautions may deter further incidents from occurring or assist in the detection of the crime when it is occurring. Anyone with information regarding the rash of thefts from vehicles is asked to contact the Steuben County Sheriff’s Office via communications at 260-665-3131, Fremont Police at 260-495-9848, or Steuben County Crime Stoppers at 260-668-STOP. Citizens are also urged to report any suspicious persons or activity immediately, especially during the overnight hours.
