Report of a Sexual Assault / Rape on the SRJC Santa Rosa Campus
In the late afternoon of Tuesday, August 25, 2015, the SRJC District Police were notified of a sexual assault which occurred on the SRJC Santa Rosa Campus. SRJC District Police Officers made contact with the victim who informed them the incident occurred on August 20, 2015 at approximately 9:00 p.m.
The victim, a female SRJC student, reported the incident occurred inside the women’s restroom of Barnett Hall on the Santa Rosa Campus. After entering the restroom, the victim said she was confronted by a man wearing a black beanie type mask over his face. The victim said the man forcefully pushed her against a wall and sexually assaulted her. The suspect then fled in an unknown direction.
The suspect is described as a male, possibly Caucasian, 5’10”, and of stocky build. At the time of the crime, the suspect was wearing a black beanie type mask which was pulled over his face, a black long sleeved shirt, and black pants. The victim was unable to provide any further details about the unknown suspect at this time.
The SRJC District Police Department immediately contacted the Santa Rosa Police Department’s (SRPD) Domestic Violence Sexual Assault (DVSA) Detectives who are specialized, trained, and experienced to conduct this type of investigation. SRPD is now handling the investigation.
The SRJC District Police Department also contacted Verity, who provided counseling, support, and other resources to the victim. The District Police have reported the incident to the SRJC’s Title IX coordinator.

The SRJC District Police take this and all crime committed on all the SRJC campuses seriously and are dedicated in providing full police services 24 hours per day, 365 days a year, for your safety. We are focusing our presence in the community to deal with this and any threats which arise. Please do your part in being safe on campus by doing the following:
• If you are on the campus late, ask someone you trust, a colleague or friend, to walk or drive you to your vehicle.
• If you have any concerns and must walk alone, call the District Police for a uniformed safety escort to walk you to your vehicle, class, office, or other area on campus. (707) 527-1000
• Stay in well-lit, well-populated areas and park your car in well-lit, well-traveled areas of the parking lots.
• Be aware of your environment. Don’t be afraid to look over your shoulders. It’s not rude to maintain a safe distance between yourself and others.
• Be aware of the locations of the nearest emergency phone stations and program the phone number for District Police into your cell phone; (707)527-1000.
• Send the message that you are calm, confident, and know where you are going.
• Carry your keys in your hand. You will be able to get into your car faster and the keys may be used as a weapon if necessary.
• Avoid blind corners. Take wide turns so that you have room to react to what’s ahead.
• Walk with confidence.
• Check your backseats before getting into your car.
• Always to lock your vehicle and roll up your windows.
• If you see someone loitering around your car as you approach, STOP!, turn around, walk away and watch them from a distance.
The investigation is ongoing and the District Police are asking anyone who was in the area around the time of the crime who may have witnessed anything suspicious or who has any information to come forward. The District Police are also asking everyone to be aware of their surroundings while on campus and to immediately report any suspicious persons or activities to (707) 527-1000.
