Conyers Police Assists Conyers Crossroads Shopping Center with New Curfew & Code of Conduct
(Conyers, GA—August 28, 2014) The Conyers Police Department (CPD) will be working with the Conyers Crossroads shopping center to help enforce the private property’s new curfew and code of conduct beginning September 1st.
Conyers Crossroads Shopping Center, 1454 Dogwood Drive SE, has developed a new private property curfew which goes in to effect September 1st. Visitors under the age of 18 are required to be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian aged 21 and over after 7:00 p.m. CPD Marshal Corporal Chad Sims has been working with the corporation to develop this escort policy and new code of conduct.
“The merchants located within Conyers Crossroads Shopping Center want their patrons to have an enjoyable shopping experience,” Corporal Sims explains. “That experience was being jeopardized by the sheer number of unsupervised teens loitering in the parking lots.”
Officers have encountered hundreds of teens loitering in the area particularly during the weekends. This affects merchants’ business and ties up police resources. To alleviate such issues, there are several caveats to the new policy. For example, when conditions contribute to an overflow of youths, management reserves the right to disperse and/or eject individuals or groups. Also, the purchase of a movie ticket at Carmike Cinemas does not exempt a child from compliance with the policy. Youths exiting the theater after 7:00 p.m. must immediately leave the property if not escorted by a parent or legal guardian.
Conyers Crossroads has also enacted a new Code of Conduct to ensure a pleasant shopping environment. Some of these restrictions include littering, vandalism, skateboarding and inappropriate clothing. No offensive messages or pictures may be displayed on clothing, hoods on apparel must be worn down, and pants will be held on at the waist with no underwear or skin showing.
