On Sunday August 30, 2015 at 4:37 AM the Cannelton Police Department investigated a suspicious vehicle parked and running behind 7th Street Baptist Church at South 7th and Congress Streets in Cannelton. The officer located a male, later identified as Robert S. Williams, asleep or passed out in the passenger seat. After several attempts, Williams finally woke up and opened the car door. The officer noticed in plain view, in the center console, a glass pipe commonly used to smoke illegal narcotics. The officer also noticed several items typically used in the manufacturing of methamphetamine. The officer secured Williams and a further search of the vehicle revealed several indicators of what could have been an active meth lab. The search was immediately stopped and the meth suppression team was notified in order to process the scene further.
