RE: Press Release
On Saturday August 29, 2015 at 11:02PM the Cannelton Police Department was dispatched to Bear's Tavern on a report of a male subject armed with a gun fighting with a female outside of the bar. An officer arrived in less than two minutes of being dispatched and learned that the suspect had left in a vehicle prior to the arrival of law enforcement. While speaking to witnesses, a vehicle drove by and was identified as the vehicle in which the suspect had left in. Officers with the Tell City Police Department and the Perry County Sheriff's Department assisted the Cannelton Police Department in conducting a traffic stop at North 4th and Adams Streets on the vehicle. Officers observed in plain view on the floorboard of the passenger side of the vehicle a loaded magazine for a handgun as well as an empty holster. Upon further search of the vehicle, a sharps container was located containing several syringes. Upon checking the immediate area, a .45 caliber handgun was located on the shoulder of the roadway that appeared to have been thrown out of the vehicle just before the traffic stop. The gun found matched the magazine that was found in the vehicle the suspect was in. The male was taken into custody and transported to the Perry County Detention Center.
