Lowell Man Dies in Car Crash
Hebron, Lake County-A Lowell man succumbed to his injuries, this morning, when he ran his pickup into the rear of a semi.
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Jason Pratt revealed, at approximately 5:28 a.m., this Wednesday, September 2, 2015, a garbage hauler being pulled by a 1998 Kenworth, owned by Mr. Bult’s Incorporated out of Burnham, Illinois, and driven by Barfeale F. Dailey Junior, 25 of Park Forest, Illinois, has just made a left turn to go east on SR. 2 from southbound I-65 ramp on a green light when it was hit in the rear.
The Kenworth was in the right lane of east bound SR. 2 when a 2001 Chevrolet S1500 pickup, driven by Richard D Bennett, 62 of Lowell, Indiana, went through the intersection and hit the rear of Dailey’s trailer. A witness had observed the traffic light at I-65 and SR. 2 junction turn green when Bennett went through the intersection and hit the rear of the garbage trailer without braking.
Bennett who was not wearing his seat belt was found unresponsive and Troopers Jason Pratt and Andrew Rasala removed Bennett from his pickup and performed CPR on him until paramedics arrived.
Bennett was taken to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point where he was pronounced dead from his injuries. Family HAS been notified.
All lanes eastbound at SR. 2 were closed for reconstruction of the crash, removal of the injured and vehicles, and cleanup of the roadway. All lanes were reopened at approximately 8:10 a.m.
