Message regarding impact of Pope's Visit on Lindenwold Residents.
LINDENWOLD POLICE DEPARTMENT
Media Release: Papal Visit
In anticipation of the Pope’s visit to Philadelphia in conjunction with the World Meeting of Families, the Lindenwold Police Department wanted to make you aware of what you may expect. Pope Francis will arrive in the U.S. on Friday September 25th. He will be in Philadelphia on Saturday September 26th and Sunday September 27th.
In order to accommodate moving a large number of people in and out of Philadelphia, the PATCO high speed line will be operating on a special schedule throughout the weekend of Sept. 25-27. Only four speed line stations will be utilized, Lindenwold, Woodcrest, Ferry Avenue, and Broadway. All of the other PATCO stations will be closed for the duration of the weekend.
Obviously, vehicles and people trying to utilize the speed line at the Lindenwold station will have the biggest impact on us. During that weekend, you may see a greater volume of cars travelling in and around Lindenwold which may lead to some traffic congestion. You may also see vehicles parking on residential streets where vehicles usually do not park as well as groups of people walking toward the Lindenwold speed line station.
The Lindenwold Police Department is prepared to handle any and all traffic issues that may arise while providing safety and security to our residents and visitors. The police department will have extra officers on duty throughout the weekend. There are only two street closures during the Pope’s visit; Highland Avenue and Shadyside Avenue. These are small dead end streets in the area of the speed line station which will be closed to normal traffic but will be open to residents.
There are several major roadways in our area that will be closed during the weekend. If, for some reason, these roadways become overcrowded, it may cause congestion along secondary roads which could have an impact here. Please allow yourself extra time when travelling during the Pope’s visit.
