Mercersburg Police Department makes arrest for Theft by Deception & Deceptive Business Practices.

Angel Miguel-Munoz RODRIGUEZ, age 35, was arrested at 7:30 a.m. on 09/01/2015 by the Susquehanna Township Police Department for Felony drug violations in Dauphin County. As a result of that arrest, the Susquehanna Township Police Department discovered the criminal arrest warrant on charges of Theft by Deception & Deceptive Business Practices filed by the Mercersburg Police Department in this investigation.

RODGIGUEZ was lodged in the Dauphin County Booking Center. RODRIGUEZ was arraigned via video conference by Judge Jody EYER and RODRIGUEZ was lodged in the Dauphin County Prison in lieu of $75,000.00 bail. A preliminary hearing was scheduled for 09/15/2015 at 1:00 p.m.

The charges stem from a complaint filed with the Mercersburg Police Department by victim Juan FERNANDEZ on May 19, 2015.

The criminal investigation showed on 04/15/2015 the defendant came to the victim’s residence, 36 Church Street, Mercersburg, PA at the victim’s request. The victim had a gray 2004 Dodge Durango that had broken down and he called the defendant to evaluate and possibly repair the vehicle.

The defendant doing business as Angel’s Auto Repair, 15 Buchanan Valley Road, Orrtanna, PA made a written agreement to repair the victim’s vehicle by rebuilding the engine at a cost $1,880.00. The victim gave the defendant a down payment of $1,180.00 with the balance of $700.00 due when the repair was completed in two weeks. The defendant towed the victim’s vehicle to Angel’s Auto Repair, Orrtanna, PA

The defendant cashed the check for $1,180.00 on 04/16/2015 and fled the area without starting any work on the vehicle.

The victim notified the Mercersburg Police regarding this incident on May 19, 2015 and a criminal investigation was initiated. Through the investigation it was discovered the defendant was a Megan’s Law Absconder. It was also discovered the defendant may have also taken money from as many as fifteen to sixteen victims without following through by doing the work on the vehicles.

On July 1, 2015, charges of Theft by Deception and Deceptive or Fraudulent Business Practices were filed against the defendant at the office of District Judge Jody EYER and a criminal arrest warrant was obtained. The defendant name was entered into NCIC as being wanted on these charges.
