A 30 year old man was shot in the abdomen on Metro bus line 207, when it pulled up to the stop at Western Avenue and 60th Street, in the City of Los Angeles. The crime occurred on Labor Day Monday, September 7th, 2015, at approximately 12:07 PM. Erroneous reports that the person shot was a bystander caught in the cross-fire of a gang dispute appear to have been premature.
The LASD Transit Policing Division, which provides police services to the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (Metro), had detectives and the LASD Crime Lab process the bus and surrounding area, conduct in-depth interviews with witnesses, and view video images from the bus video system. It appears by all accounts that the suspect and person shot became involved in a verbal altercation not long after the suspect entered the bus. The suspect then produced a handgun and shot the person in the abdomen. The suspect then ran off the bus with a possible accomplice, and out of sight.
It should be noted that crime aboard Metro buses and trains is low, about three part 1 crimes for every 1 million boarding, especially when compared to the areas in which Metro runs through.
The suspect is described as a male, Black, 18-20 years old, 5’4”-5’6” 140-150 pounds, wearing a black baseball cap with a Chicago White Sox logo, black T-shirt, and blue jean shorts.
