Man Arrested After Brief Standoff With Officers in Columbus Restaurant
Columbus-On Saturday, September 12, Trooper Korry Clark arrested a Columbus man after a brief standoff in a local McDonald’s Restaurant.
At approximately 5:18 AM, Trp. Clark and officers from the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department and Columbus Police Department responded to McDonald’s on 3rd Street in Columbus due to a person acting erratically and holding a knife. Upon arriving, officers located Lucino Evangelio-Cayetano, 36, in a utility closet. Evangelio-Cayetano was holding a knife and a bottle of a cleaning solution. Officers cleared out the restaurant for safety reasons. Officers gave the suspect numerous commands to drop the knife. Evangelio-Cayetano did not comply with the officers’ commands. He waved the knife towards the officers and sprayed the cleaning solution towards them.
After a short standoff, the suspect was tased by one of the officers and then taken into custody by Trp. Clark without further incident. Evangelio-Cayetano was transported to Columbus Regional Hospital for evaluation. After being released from the hospital, he was incarcerated at the Bartholomew County Jail. Evangelio-Cayetano was arrested on the charges of criminal recklessness with a weapon, class 6 Felony, criminal trespass, class A Misdemeanor, resisting law enforcement, class A Misdemeanor, and intimidation, class A Misdemeanor.
Evangelio-Cayetano will be given an initial court date in the Bartholomew County Courts. It is unclear at this time where Evangelio-Cayetano resides.
Trp. Clark was assisted by the Columbus Police Department and the Bartholomew County Sheriff’s Department.
