Peru Man Injured in Motorcycle/Deer Crash
Denver - This morning, at approximately 7:40 a.m., officers from the Indiana State Police and the Miami County Sheriff’s Department responded to a single vehicle crash near 2355 West State Road 16, in which a Peru man was injured.
The preliminary crash investigation by Indiana State Police Trooper Detective Josh Rozzi revealed that Wayne D. Mannies, 58, rural Peru, IN, was driving a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle westbound on State Road 16, near 2355 West. A deer ran onto the roadway and was struck by the motorcycle. Mannies was ejected from the motorcycle.
Lutheran Air Helicopter flew Mannies from the crash scene to Lutheran Hospital in Ft. Wayne. Mannies sustained injuries to his head, arm, and leg. He was not wearing a helmet.
This is an ongoing investigation, but at this time neither the use of alcohol nor narcotics is suspected as having contributed to this crash.
Trooper Detective Rozzi was assisted at the crash scene by Indiana State Police Captain Ed Schroder, Trooper Steven Glass, the Denver Fire Department, and Dukes Hospital EMS.
