Los Banos Receives Notification of Award of a Community Development Block Grant (CDBG)
LOS BANOS, CA – The City of Los Banos is pleased to announce that it has received an award announcement from the Department of Housing and Community Development (HCD) that the City will receive a Community Development Block Grant (also known as the CDBG Grant) in the amount of $322,500. This grant will fund code enforcement activities in designated areas of the community. According to HCD, funding for code enforcement must be conducted in a primarily residential service area where 51% of the residents are low- and moderate-income; and the funding may only pay for the enforcement of state and/or local codes.
Mayor Villalta responded to the news by saying "We are very thankful to the Department of Housing and Community Development for approving our City's 2015 CDBG grant application. The funding will support code enforcement as an essential community service by gaining compliance with ordinances and regulations.”
Police Chief Gary Brizzee added, “It is our mission to address concerns of unsafe, unhealthy, and unsightly conditions within our community. With this idea in mind, we will continue to work to provide a clean, safe, and healthy environment and improve the overall quality of life in Los Banos.”
Furthermore, City Manager Steve Carrigan stated “In this still fiscally-challenged environment, the City continues its commitment to take advantage of every funding opportunity and make use of innovative ways to increase service to our residents. The award of this grant is a testament to our City’s commitment and willingness to be flexible to secure outside sources of funding.”
The City has benefitted from the receipt of many CDBG grants over the years. CDBG funding is a state-administered federal program that provides resources to aid in community development.
