Bank Robbery Suspect and Carjacking Suspect Apprehended after Pursuit and Shooting

Amazing heroism exhibited by our officers yesterday who came under gunfire after a violent crime spree that involved two carjackings at gunpoint and two banks robbed.

After the suspect stole a car, robbed a business and then robbed a bank in Mansfield, APD officers responded to a bank robbery in East Arlington. The suspect then carjacked a new vehicle from a dealership in North Arlington after ditching his getaway car from the bank robberies.

As officers located the stolen car, they attempted to stop the suspect at Cooper and Sanford. As the suspect momentarily stopped his car, the drivers side door opened and he leaned out and began shooting at officers who returned fire.

The suspect then fled to Cooper and Division and he made a u-turn and began firing at officers again. The suspect then fled westbound onto Division and made another u-turn in the 2900 block of W. Division and drove towards officers who were in the pursuit. One officer fired his weapon at the suspect. The car the suspect was traveling in veered into the westbound lanes and crashed into a red pickup.

Even as officers were taking the suspect into custody, other officers rushed to the overturned pickup (photo courtesy WFAA) to help trapped occupants. All three occupants in the truck are expected to survive.

The suspect remains at the hospital with serious injuries. You can see by these photos how dangerous this suspect was to our community and officers. One of the bullet holes on the Dodge Charger was just inches from striking the officer. A Tahoe was also struck near the radiator and engine block.

"It was amazing that no officers or innocent citizens were killed during this gunman's violent crime spree involving two bank robberies and two carjacking offenses. I am extremely proud of the heroic actions and response by our team of officers. He presented a clear danger to our community and I am thankful that our officers stopped him," said Police Chief Will Johnson.

Many other officers were blocking intersections preventing innocent bystanders from straying into the path of this violent suspect. Community feedback has been great and we want to highlight the great work that these officers did!

He is expected to be charged with Attempted Capital Murder. He has also been charged with multiple counts of aggravated robbery.
