APD Receives First Place International Award for 2015 Annual Report Contest
The Arlington Police Department was awarded First Place honors in the 2015 Annual Report Design Contest by the International Association of Law Enforcement Planners (IALEP). The department publishes an annual report to keep the community connected and engaged with the organizational efforts to make Arlington safer. Partnerships with the community are an integral part in the department’s overall crime fighting strategy. The 2014 Annual Report that was submitted for consideration of this honor cataloged outstanding stories from our workgroups and citizen programs. Photos of officers, community members, and our various programs that make significant investments in Arlington were highlighted. The report allows citizens a behind the scenes view of what their police department is doing to address neighborhood problems and reinforce our commitment to reducing crime and making Arlington a great place to live, work and play.
This report validates what we accomplished collectively as a police department working together with our community and highlights our citizen programs such as our homeless outreach efforts, investments with our youth, and the many volunteering opportunities that are available. “While this report is comprehensive in nature, it provides snapshots into what goes on behind the scenes to make Arlington safer,” said Police Chief Will Johnson. “One of the most important tasks any police department endeavors is to effectively communicate with the community all the collective efforts directed towards achieving our shared goals. This report highlights our emphasis on community policing and the value of a collective efficacy. This leads to a stronger community where all people receive equal protection and feel valued which in-turn increases the public’s trust and confidence in the police.”
The Annual Report Contest Award is granted in recognition of departments who have made significant contributions to the field of law enforcement planning. The Arlington Police Department hosted the IALEP conference last week. It should be noted that the department received a third place finish in the 2014 Annual Report Design Contest for our 2013-year annual report.
IALEP consists of professionals working in the area of planning and research for criminal justice agencies. The organization has close to 1,000 members from around the world. The association serves as a forum to exchange ideas, programs, techniques, and policies.
