Crime Prevention Message for October - Scam Text Warning
The Northfield Twp Police along with the BBB advise our residents against Scam Texts that “Phish” for Banking Information. Like emails, text messages are trying to get personal information from victims. Text messages are being sent fraudulently representing financial institutions (Banks), requesting recipients to update their profiles by providing passwords, bank account numbers and personal information. Links to websites are provided and may contain their banks name within the links domain.
DELETE THE TEXT– Do not visit the link. Ignore too, any message that instructs you to text “STOP” or “NO” to prevent future text messages. Scammers often use this to confirm they have a real, active phone number. Text 7726 (SPAM) to alert your cellphone carrier to block future texts.
Report suspected spam to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) https://consumercomplaints.fcc.gov or by phone: 1-888-CALL-FCC (1-888-225-5322). The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) restricts sending unwanted commercial messages; get more information at www.ftc.gov/spam or call 877 382 4357.
