Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Academy starts October 16th, 2015
Are you thinking about the next big one! Do you have a family or neighbor plan in the event of a disaster? We can’t predict, but we can get prepared. Come join the Cypress Police Department, in conjunction with the West County CERT team, for a free Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training class.
CERT educates those interested in learning more about disaster preparedness and provides basic disaster response skills. Using the training, one can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available. CERT members are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in the safety of their community.
Mayor Rob Johnson says, “It’s not if, but when a disaster strikes. Fire, Police and Public Works resources will be spread thin and we can’t do it alone. This is an opportunity for our community members and business partners to come together, get trained and be at-the-ready to lend a hand when it will be most needed.”
The 20-hour FEMA-approved course includes training in Disaster Preparedness, Medical Operations, Light Search and Rescue, Fire Suppression, Team Organization and Disaster Psychology. Training will be held at the Joint Forces Training Base - Building 15, located at 11200 Lexington Drive, Los Alamitos, CA 90720. The training schedule will be comprised of two weekend training sessions:
• Friday, October 16th, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
• Saturday, October 17th, 2015 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
• Friday, October 23rd, 2015 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
• Saturday, October 24th, 2015 from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm
